US Open Golf Championship

Despite the intermittent play due to the rain, it is unknown Americans, Ricky Barnes and Lucas Glover who lead the way at the US Open at the start of round four at the Bethpage Black course. Both have played extraordinarily well and are well set at seven under to go all the way; they five shots clear of the field. Phil Mickelson forced himself onto the leaderboard and is one of four players on two under which includes top European Ross Fisher. Tiger Woods who still looks an unlikely winner has got to even par with eleven holes left to play
Glover Wins 2009 US Open
Lucas Glover ranked 71st in the world held on grimly in the final round of the US Open to win by two strokes from playing partner, Ricky Barnes, David Duval and crowd favourite Phil Mickelson. It was a first victory on tour since 2005 for Glover who qualified for the tournament via a top ten finish at the Buick Open earlier this year. His odds were 500/1 at the start of the tournament and his win proved conclusively that golf betting really does provide outstanding value.
For Mickelson, who is unlikely to play again this year due to his wife’s serious health condition it was particularly galling, as it was the fifth time he has been second or tied second at the US Open. It was great to see David Duval show signs that he is coming back to his very best that saw him at one time as number two ranked player in the world. Top European was Englishman, Ross Fisher, who had every chance until bogeying the 16th. He finished on one under in fifth place. Tiger Woods had threatened earlier but could only finish on level par for a tie of sixth place.

2009 US Open Golf Guide
The 2009 US Open takes place between 18-21 June over the Black Course at Bethpage State Park, New York. It was last staged here in 2002 when world number one, Tiger Woods won his second US Open.
Woods of course famously won last year too at Torrey Pines, when he hobbled, almost on one leg around the 18 hole play off to fend off the challenge from veteran Rocco Mediate. After winning, Woods took the rest of the year off and had surgery on his knee. He is of course now back and has already one tournament win under his belt this year. He will no doubt start favourite in the US Open betting to win once more.
